Thoughts is for more relaxed content that reflects my personal perspectives on various topics. I'm thinking of writing about everything besides finance here.

The first law is homophily (from Greek: "love of the same"), the tendency for people to bond with those who share traits like age, gender, ethnicity, interests, or values. (Credit to Moreno, J. L. (1934). Who shall survive?: A new approach to the problem of human interrelations.)

What homophily shows is that two 21-year-old women playing tennis are more likely to form a bond than either would with an 80-year-old man. It grows through social influence (friends adopt similar views or behaviors), repulsion (bonds break if differences emerge, like political clashes), and environment (similar people meet in similar places, like gyms or book clubs).
